Swashbuckling Shiv Sangalemaa Spearheads Strikers’ 5th Victory

By Orin Davidson | Scorecard
Strikers romped to their fifth victory in the Metropolitan Cricket League by nailing Lucas in an eight- wicket triumph in the Busta Lawrence competition last Sunday at Marine Park.

Shiv Sangalemaa struck a quick 66 from 21 deliveries.

Lucas’s batsmen had few answers for Strikers bowlers and were bundled out for 90 after taking first strike to which the latter team responded with 93 for the loss of two wickets in 20.2 overs.

Sachin Yadram who represented West Indies at the Under-19 level and former Guyana player Paul Wintz set up the victory by combining for seven wickets as Lucas lasted only 20.2 overs in the 40 overs a side encounter. Yadram bagged four wickets for 37 runs from 6.2 overs while Wintz captured 3-25 with his medium pace swing.

A swashbuckling half century from Shiv Sangalemaa set the platform for victory in Strikers’ reply as he almost singlehandedly took apart Lucas’ bowling, slamming six sixes and five fours for 66 lightening runs off only 21 balls for a phenomenal strike rate of 314.29.

When Sangalemaa was eventually dismissed by Durale Forrest it was left to, Pinak Ghosh to finish things off with the next best score of 17 not out.

Yadram earlier had cleaned up Lucas’ middle order, removing Forrest, Akeem Dewar, Howard Blake and J. Godfrey. But it was Wintz who started the slide, dismissing Ibrahim Zahoor, Orval Crawford and Rodwell Busgith. Patrick Dewar topscored with 21 as only four batsmen reached double figures.

Wintz was on fire from the word go, with a devastating first over when he sent back the numbers two and three batsmen. Crawford was first to go being bowled by Witnz without a run scored and with the last ball he had Busgith caught for four.

It was soon 59-5 as Zahoor was caught off Wintz for 10, Evo Louten was then trapped LBW by Andre Bryce for 10 and Keon Lake had Dewar caught. When Forrest was caught it was 76-6 in the 12th over and Akeem Dewar soon followed for two. It was soon over after Godfrey, Campbell and Blake were dismissed with score on 89 and 90 respectively.

Sangalemaa and ex Guyana national youth player Richard Ramdeen put on 50 for the first wicket for Strikers with the latter player scoring seven. And when Sangalemaa had hammered the bowling before being caught, the score was 77 in only 5.2 overs.

Having posted victories over Punjab CC, Island Wide, Spice Island and Atlantis, Strikers will next take on Westburry on July 11 after the competition breaks for the 4th July weekend celebrations.
