Trevor Henry’s Ton Fires Liberty SC To Win Over Richmond Hill

Trevor Henry hammered a classy hundred when Liberty Sports Club (LSC) powered past Richmond Hill Cricket Club (RHCC) by 196 runs on Sunday. The stylish right hander scorched seven boundaries and cleared the cage 9 times in a well-composed knock of 116. #TheBlueNation then returned to bundle out the home team for just 70 runs and capping commanding victory.

Trevor Henry struck a brilliant 116 for his second LSC century.

Overnight rain and a damp outfield did not deter LSC after the coin fell in their favor. Danesh Deonarain and Clain Williams covered the opening spots in place of Francis Mendonca and Hemendra Ramdihal who were unavailable. With moisture under the matting offering some help to the RHCC bowlers, Williams took the lead in a watchful 36 runs opening partnership. Deonarain departed for 12 and this brought Trevor Henry to the crease in the 11th over.

Henry patiently started his inning but quickly announced his intentions with a towering maximum out of the cage onto Foch Boulevard. Williams reached the boundary 4 times and cleared it once in his knock of 35 before he to depart. His fall brought Trinson Carmichael, fresh off of a half-century the previous week, to the crease. Carmichael’s stay was only long enough to hit one six in his knock of eight before Terrence Madramootoo joined Henry.

Henry and Madramootoo enjoyed a sizable partnership the last time LSC played RHCC at the same venue. The end result was Madramootoo scoring a record 147 runs and Henry a half-century. The pair once again set out on a massive partnership. Three boundaries and four sixes into his inning Henry brought up his half-century. Madramootoo, not to be left out and what started to appear as a friendly partnership competition, hammered 2 boundaries and six sixes in his knock of 55.

Following Madramootoo’s departure Henry turned the duet into a solo show hitting 3 more boundaries and four sixes before he brought up his second century for the club with a punch to long on. Henry who finished the 2015 season topping the league with 609 runs at an average of 55, went on to score 116 in his knock before being caught out in the closing overs of the innings. The remaining LSC batsmen boosted the score up to 266 when the final ball of the inning was bowled.

The nine LSC wickets to fall were shared two apiece to Nadesh Basdeo, Shameer Sadloo, Zaheer Sadloo and young Moin Sadloo. Marlon Kallicharran accounted for the 9th wicket.

With their tales up the Chan’s P & H Mechanical, Inc. sponsored LSC came out raring to go in their defense. Carmichael, running in hard from the Foch Blvd end led the charge and found success on his fourth ball when Kallicharran drove straight to backward point. Carmichael broke through Debo Sankar’s defenses the next over to remove the number 3 batsman. Andre Kirton bowling at the other end quickly accounted for another scalp leaving RHCC chase in limbo.

Jamiel Jackman picked up 3 wickets for 15 runs in his 8 over spell.

Basdeo and Zaheer Sadloo consolidated to the first water break when the score was 46. Leon Mohabir removed Sadloo and then Jamiel Jackman took over the attack.

Jackman bowled with pace and accuracy to first knock over the otherwise solid Basdeo. Shameer Sadloo nicked another from Jackman to keeper, Williams, when RHCC lost their 6th wicket. Doing even more damage Jackman rattled the furniture once more to remove Kemraj Brijmohan. The young paceman finished a wonderful spell of fast bowling claiming the three wickets for just 15 runs off 8 overs.

Leggie, Orlando Kirton picked up the attack and quickly wrapped up the RHCC inning in his first over. He closed off the home team’s inning at 70 for 9 with Deryck McDonald not batting due to an injury he picked up earlier in the match.

The win for LSC locks them into a top four play-off spot. With two games left before the semi-finals teams will be jostling for ranking to determine the matchups in the playoffs. LSC will battle with number four seed Atlantis Cricket Club – NY this Sunday at Bay Park.
