Submitted by Tri State Organization
As New York cricketers continue to reel from the injustices meted out by the new administration running United States cricket, a new effort to revitalize interest among young players is in the works.
The Tri State organization, one of the pillars of development of players in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, in past years, is resuscitating its Under-23 competition in an effort to lift the morale and standard of the players in the three states.
Under the stewardship of former New York Regional Director Clifford Hinds, players will battle for trophies and bragging rights in the Tri State Under-23 competition representing teams from New York, Atlantic (New Jersey) and Connecticut Regions in June.
The 50 overs- a- side competition will feature round robin, home and away games following which the two top teams will contest a final. Long serving officials Lalta Persaud of New Jersey and Jay Singh of Connecticut will organize the preparation of the areas respective teams.
Outstanding performers will form a Tri State team that will tour cities around the country and Canada for T20 development series.
Over the years the Tri State organization has aided in the development of high level players the likes of recently unjustly discarded United States/ wicketkeeper batsman Akeem Dodson, Andre Kirton, Gregory Sewdial, Jim Allen and Megh Bhatt among others.
Through its competitions and coaching programs, Tri State made a big input in the area’s strong representation in the first ever United States team to compete in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2006 and likewise in the country’s domination of the Americas Cup junior competition which involved teams from Canada, Bermuda, Cayman Islands etc, at the time.
It is with those accomplishments under its belt, Tri State is taking initial steps with the upcoming competition to lift the profile of the areas players to a level the decision makers at the national level can no longer ignore.
