Players of USYCA Associate member Washington Cricket League’s youth program received coaching recently from USA coach Robin Singh, at a series of clinics in Virginia and Maryland. Singh, who played one Test and 136 ODIs for India, was a lower-middle order batsman and medium pace bowler in his day, and was known for his prowess in the field. Singh now coaches for the Mumbai Indians of the Indian Premier League.

Singh worked with the players on important fundamentals, such as keeping a steady head when playing the ball. He also demonstrated a proper stance and footwork in the crease. After the demonstration, Singh involved the players directly, with the children trying to emulate the skills they had been taught.

In addition to batting technique, Singh also gave instruction on catching and running between the wickets. After this, he created two teams from the group and gave them a chance to show what they could do, with himself as the bowler, varying the pace according to the skill level of the batter before him.
