ICC Americas Women’s Div. 1 Championship
The United States of America Cricket Association women’s team is representing the USA in the 2012 ICC Americas Women’s Twenty20 Championship being held in the Cayman Islands from April 23 through April 28, 2012.
USA will face hosts Cayman Islands, Brazil, Argentina, Bermuda and Canada in the challenge for the Americas T20 Championship. The winner will represent the Americas in the 2013 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier.
In their opening game team USA faced Cayman Islands at the Smith Road Oval. Captain Candacy Atkins won the toss and presented the field to the Caymanians. USA rang up a grand tally of 125 for the loss of 4 wickets in their mandated 20 overs.
Nadia Gruny top scored for the USA with (36), Atkins added (29) and Melissa Sandy (27). Claudine Beckford was the most efficient bowler giving up a meager 2 runs in her allotted 4 overs. Samantha Ramautar took 2 wickets and gave away a paltry 6 runs.
In reply, the hosts were only able to muster a valiant 57 in 19 overs. The bowling prowess of team USA turned out to be a bit of a challenge for the Caymanians.
USA will take on Brazil in their second match of the tournament which continues on April 24th at the J.P. Powell Oval.
