The United States of America (USA) notched up its first victory in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 when it defeated Oman by 30 runs in a Group B match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first after making the right call on the spin of coin, the USA collected 141 for seven with captain Sushil Nadkarni top scoring with a 59. In turn, Oman finished at 111 for seven as Japen Patil (three for) and Abhimanyu Rajp (two for 23) shared wickets.
However, Usman Shuja was declared man of the match for his figures of 4-1-9-1.
Nadkarni, whose 47-ball included three fours and four sixes, later said: “It’s great to end the win drought in the tournament. We knew we could beat Oman and through some disciplined performance, we have managed to earn maximum points.
“I know we cannot qualify for the tournament proper in Sri Lanka but there is still plenty of opportunity to learn from this tournament. Our next matches are against Kenya (on Monday) and Scotland on Tuesday) and we’ll try to rotate players so that everyone earns valuable experience.”
