The United States of America Global Cricket Academy (USAGCA) recently completed its 2015-2016 tour to Sri Lanka. The tour was the USAGCA’s third major International tour within the past 13 months. After its 2014-15 major tour of India, USAGCA again traveled to Sri Lanka for an 18-day competition-cum-training tour with the combined Under-19 and Under-21 and Combined Under-15 and Under-17 teams, and played more than 20 matches and many high profile coaching sessions at different International venues.
USAGCA joined Great Cricket Steps, a Sri Lankan initiative in partnership with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board & the Sri Lanka Sports Ministry, with the full pledged support of the Sri Lanka Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera. Players got the most out of the tour including meeting with cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Venkatesh Prasad from India and Roshan Mahanama and many other top-notch coaches from India and Sri Lanka, available on the tour.
According to a combined statement from the USAGCA’s Management, “We are very proud and happy to complete our third major tour to support our highly talented and potential players in the USA, who lack international cricket experience and against tough opponents. We are here to provide them with the right platform and to become professionals. Such opportunities will help them stay on top for future cricket events in the USA.
With these three tours we already have many young players with the academy’s National Development Program and we are willing to provide every possible help from our end, including future scholarships and high performance training in India and many other countries in the future.”
