Versatile Liberty Sports Club Gets Past Richmond Hill Cricket Club
Liberty Sports Club (LSC) put in an all-round team effort to defeat Richmond Hill Cricket Club (RHCC) by 4 wickets in their Eastern American Cricket Association match at Bay County Park. Trevor Henry led the charge for the GMA Enterprise and Royal Empress Catering Hall sponsored LSC. Henry picked up 2 wickets and snagged 2 catches and a run out when #TheBlueNation bowled out RHCC for 170. He then returned to stroke a resolute 27 in the successful chase.
Trevor Henry’s 2 wickets, 2 catches, 1 run out and resolute 27 ensured victory for Liberty Sports Club.
LSC inserted RHCC to bat after being awarded the toss. Sudesh Dhaniram kept things tight with the new ball and in his 3rd over struck to remove P. Roopchan (21) thanks to a superb catch by Henry. Henry then took over at the other end from Jay Sing and immediately found success when he had the prolific Debo Sankar (15) hold out to mid-off. Henry would strike again to remove Marlon kallicharran for 4 in similar fashion. Dhaniram meanwhile kept things tied up at the other end.
Trinson Carmichael, replacing Dhaniram continued keeping that end locked up. The pressure resulted in Carmichael bowling Sean Thompson (5) and then Shameer Sadloo (1) in quick succession. Nandesh Basdeo kept his nerves while he lost 4 batting partner. The left hander struck 5 fours and 1 six before Rusty Kirton struck a decisive blow to remove Basdeo for 48 thanks to another Trevor Henry catch.
Imran Ali played a quick cameo for 20 while Deryck McDonald stuck around to accumulate 12 before Asif Ali slogged 26 in the closing overs to push RHCC to 170 all out in the 40th over.
Dhaniram ended up with phenomenal bowling figures against his former club, 8 overs 4 maidens 2 wickets for 11 runs. Carmichael was also miserly with 8 overs for 22 and 2 wickets. Kirton and Henry were the other wicket taking bowlers for LSC with 2 each.
The boys in blue got off to a quick start in their chase when Francis Mendonca and Romero Deane took strike. Dean scored freely striking 1 four and 2 sixes in his knock of 35 before he departed. Mendonca batted patiently while he and Carmichael milked runs around the park. Carmichael would depart for twelve before Dhaniram, looking his classy self was removed to a full length, diving catch by Basdeo off of his own bowling.
Mendonca struck 3 fours in his knock of 44 before he lost batting partner Terrence Madramootoo (10) and followed shortly after. RHCC sniffed a chance once Mendonca departed but Kirton and Henry partnered to safely steer the game back in LSC’s favor. The pair played smartly and complemented it with efficient running between the wickets to bring home the victory. Henry (27) got out 2 runs short of the winning total before Kirton, braving a leg injury, knocked in the winning runs.
Heading into the Memorial Day Weekend #TheBlueNation is 2-0. The unit is heading south for the weekend for their annual contest against Washington Metro Cricket Association. The trip will feature a T20 and a 40-Over encounter over the 3 day weekend.
