Warriors No Match for Atlantis’ Arrows
Atlantis needed only two arrows in each of its batting and bowling quivers, to defeat East Side Warriors at Heckscher State Park last Sunday for the second time this season, and in the process won their seventh match of the 2015 EACA Cricket Zone 40 Overs season.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Warriors were off to a somewhat disastrous start with the opening pair of Sushant Perdant and Ubaid Khan contributing only 3 and 0 respectively, before a gallant third-wicket stand between Saud Alvi, 52 (11x4s) and Sabeeh Rafique, 38 (5x4s, 2x6s). Following the departure of the attacking pair, the Warriors enjoyed a brief respite and a gallant contribution of 26 (3x6s, 1×4) from Usman Rafique. The efforts of the three batsmen along with 21 (1×6, 2x4s) from Yasir Nazir and 12 from Mushon Raza were the double-digit contributions, which helped the valiant Warriors reach 194 all out in 27.3 of the 40 overs allowed. There were 23 extras in the runs column.
Atlantis’ two bowling arrows were Keon Lake, who enjoyed 4 for 45 off 7 and Michael Noble 3 for 23 off 6.3 overs. Errol Williams 4-0-20-1 and Greg Robinson 6-1-45-1 completed the fall of the Warriors, along with one run-out victim. The Atlantis fielders once again proved that catches do win matches; holding on to seven, in the ten dismissals.
In response, Atlantis smelling victory took no time in shooting the Warriors out by seven wickets, reaching 195 in only 15.3 overs, behind the two batting arrows of Shawn Mason, 76 not out (12x4s) and skipper Alex Amsterdam, 60 not out (9x4s, 2x6s). Jamal Hinckson, returning after a four match hiatus, slammed four boundaries before exiting on 16. Henderson Blades, 3 and Michael Noble, 6, rounded out the batting response. There were 34 extras, compliments of the Warriors
The East Side Warriors’ Ali Murtaza and Yasir Nazir were responsible for 2 and 1 of the Atlantis wickets respectively, as Atlantis moved to 7-3-1 for the season, while maintaining its third place in the points standings of this year’s 40-Overs tournament.
Atlantis plays 5-6 Galaxy this Sunday at Heckscher State Park on Long Island, NY. Match time is 1:00pm.
