The annual New York Ashes match was played on Saturday, October 1 in Greenwich, Connecticut. In what ended up as a low scoring affair, the Australian team defended the Ashes trophy by beating the English team by a score of 116 to 82, with the last 18 wickets of the match falling for 105 runs.
The match resulted in a $650 donation to the USYCA, with $400 in donations being raised on the day from those present and a matching $250 donation being provided by hosts the Mad Dogs Cricket Club.
“USYCA is deeply honored to receive this generous gift from the participants in the New York Ashes,” said President Jamie Harrison. “Working together with clubs and players such as these, the future for youth cricket in America is growing brighter every day.”
The annual match has a recent history tracing back to 1990, when the New York British American Chamber of Commerce was challenged to a cricket match by the Australia Society of New York, for the “New York Ashes.” For more information on future New York Ashes events, please contact the Mad Dogs Cricket Club at [email protected].
