The Legacy International Women Cricketers will host a Women Cricketer’s T20 tournament this Labor Day Weekend, September 5-6, 2015 to mark their First anniversary as part of the New York Cricket Region’s cricket community.
A visiting team from the Cayman Islands will join a Tri-State Select Women Cricket Team and Legacy International in the T20 Tournament scheduled for the picturesque Erskine Cricket Ground, located adjacent to Gateway Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, New York. The action begins at 9:00 am daily, with three matches scheduled for each day. Awards will be presented to the winner and runner-up teams, as well as to the Cricketer of the Series, the Player with the Highest Individual Tournament Score, the Bowler capturing the Most Wickets, and the Most Outstanding Wicket-keeper.
This year’s tournament will feature several players who have either represented the U.S. or played cricket at the highest levels in their respective home countries. With the Cayman Islands represented at the tournament, a lot of local women cricketers are looking to see how they match up against their Caribbean counterparts.
About Legacy International Women Cricketers
Founded in August 2014, Legacy International is the brainchild of former West Indies and US international Joan Alexander Serrano, who is dedicated to bringing young women cricketers in our metro area together with former internationals who are still passionate about the game. She believes that “…a lot of older women cricketers are looking for opportunities to pass on their knowledge about the sport they love to the next generation. We know how much the game has given us and want to give something back to youngsters in the U.S. and the Caribbean.”
Legacy International is an affiliate of the non-profit International Cricket Club of Philadelphia. It has already staged successful matches last Labor Day weekend (2014) in Brooklyn, as well as a three-team New York T20 Tournament this past spring.
