On Sunday September 13th was a day to remember when the mighty Rosedale Royals CC was set to take on Yakusari CC in Commonwealth Cricket League T20 competition at Stables. The two teams finally came to play each other in 2014. After some of Yakusari players left during the regular season to go and play with Rosedale Royals, this match was all about pride. Rosedale Royals, a Premier Division team came out in full force to play Yakusari, a Division 1 team. Couple of Bronx Raiders players who joined Yakasuri for the T20 competition was mentally prepared to face the fire. Well it was all true, Yakusari water cooled Rosedale Royals fire.
After winning the toss, the experience Yakusari captain Anthony Madray decided to send in Rosedale Royals bat, this proves to be a major decision in the game. Rosedale Royals openers Mark Lionel and Avo set forth to the wicket. They would compile a massive total but no sooner Avo was back in the side line after being run out and Shane brilliantly bowed by Buckman with the score at 20 for 2 in 5 overs.
Yakusari bowlers and fielders kept things tight, building up the pressure, runs was difficult to get and in the 10th overs Rosedale Royals was only 42 for 3. Wickets kept falling constantly, the only batsman to show some resistant were Mark Lionel a patient 51 not out and Arman 17. Rosedale Royals was only able to get to 122 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Excellent bowling from Harry 3 for 29, Allan 2 for 22 and Buckman 1 for 18.
Victory was not going to be an easy one for Yakusari after two quick wickets fell with only 8 runs on board. Rosedale Royals thought they had a shot at the victory. Allan then patches things up with a quick 18 before he departed, being caught behind, 50 for 3. With Abdul Jafiq (Bedi) and Airshad Khan (James) at the crease, these dual legendary batsmen with vast experience knew what it took to win a match. They batted through the innings sensible picking up singles, doubles and put away the bad deliveries. Rosedale Royals bowlers toiled very hard without success. Jafiq and Airshad batted them comfortably and entertained the crowd with some flamboyant shots to all parts of the Park.
Jafiq displayed his talented art of batting with class and perfection by hooking, pulling and lofting the bowlers for a well-played 60 not out which included 3 huge sixes and 7 fours. Airshad, a firing 25 not out (one six and 4 fours) showed what a quality batsman he is. They both put together a huge partnership of 75 runs and ensuring a comfortable victory to the Yakusari CC in the 17th overs.
Special thanks to all the spectators and supporters.
