St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announced longstanding sponsor of West Indies cricket and leading regional telecommunications provider, Digicel, as the official West Indies men’s team sponsor and telecommunications partner for the period 2013-2016. Digicel will also be the official sponsor of the West Indies A Team for the corresponding period.

Digicel will be team sponsor of the West Indies men’s team for all home and away series in all formats – Test, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 except International Cricket Council tournaments.

The 4 year team sponsorship agreement was formally signed by President of the WICB Mr. Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron and Digicel Group Chief Executive Officer Colm Delves at the Digicel regional headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica.

President Cameron commented: “Digicel has been a committed partner in West Indies cricket for almost ten years and we are pleased that they continue to support West Indies cricket as the team sponsor. We know that Digicel sees West Indies cricket as a vehicle which they can reach their millions of valued customers throughout the Caribbean and the association is a mutually beneficial one which we are delighted to continue.”

Digicel Group Marketing Operations Director, Kieran Foley said: “Cricket is synonymous with the Caribbean and as such, we are thrilled to have completed this contract agreement which sees Digicel retain its sponsorship of the West Indies cricket team. The agreement, together with our sponsorship of the CPL and our far-reaching youth programme, ensures Digicel’s support of the game is focused on maintaining the on-going popularity of the game in the region, for generations to come.”

“Looking forward, our goal is to be centrally involved in the development of cricket so that the region’s young talent can play competitively here at home. As such, over the next three years we will be focused on supporting the WICB and the CPL in the development of cricketing talent among all age groups,” concluded Foley.

Chief Executive Officer of the WICB said: “We are pleased to have concluded the agreement which will ensure that Digicel remains one of the major partners of West Indies cricket in the years ahead. We are especially pleased that a company which is so integral in providing a critical service in the daily lives of West Indian people sees the value in associating with the West Indies team.”

“West Indies cricket is on the upswing and when we were in the rebuilding phase Digicel stood by us as a faithful partner and it is most appropriate that we continue the relationship now that we are showing signs of consistent progress on the world stage with some of the most exciting players in the game in any format,” Muirhead added.

The new team sponsorship commences this year and concludes in September 2016.
