Virat Kohli Reclaims No.1 Spot in ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings

Virat Kohli has returned to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time since July 2021, continuing his strong run of form in international cricket. The former India captain overtook team-mate Rohit Sharma following a match-winning 93 off 91 balls against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday.
This is the 11th time Kohli has reached the No.1 position in the ODI rankings, underlining his consistency at the highest level. His rise has been powered by a string of big scores, including 135, 102 and an unbeaten 65 in a home series against South Africa in November–December, along with a fluent 74 not out against Australia in Sydney in October.

Kohli first climbed to the top of the ODI rankings in October 2013 and has now spent a total of 825 days at No.1 — the most by any Indian batter. He currently ranks 10th on the all-time list, led by West Indies great Vivian Richards, who held the top spot for 2,306 days.
ODI Rankings: Tight Race at the Top
New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell also moved ahead of Rohit Sharma after scoring 84, with just 10 rating points separating the top three batters in the latest ICC ODI rankings. The competition for the No.1 spot is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
Other notable movers in the ODI batting rankings include K.L. Rahul, who climbed one place to 11th, and Devon Conway, who jumped three places to 29th. Among bowlers, India pacer Mohammad Siraj rose five spots to 15th, while New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson surged 27 places to 69th.
ICC Test Rankings: Head, Smith and Root Make Gains
In the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith moved up one place each to third and fourth after scoring first-innings centuries in the final Ashes Test. Australia won the match by five wickets in Sydney to clinch a 4–1 series victory in the ICC World Test Championship contest.
England’s Joe Root finally registered a Test century in Australia and finished as England’s leading run-scorer in the series. His performance helped him consolidate his position at the top of the Test batting rankings, with Harry Brook holding on to second place. Jacob Bethell’s career-best knock of 154 lifted him 25 places to 52nd.
Test Bowling Rankings: Starc Shines
Mitchell Starc, named Player of the Series, jumped from ninth to third in the Test bowling rankings after taking 31 wickets. His all-round contributions also pushed him into the top five of the Test all-rounders’ rankings.
Scott Boland remained seventh after claiming 20 wickets, while Michael Neser entered the top 50 for the first time. England seamer Josh Tongue climbed nine places to a career-best 21st following a six-wicket match haul.
ICC T20I Rankings: Hasaranga, Pakistan Players Rise
In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga climbed three places to second after taking five wickets in the three-match home series against Pakistan, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
Pakistan batters Sahibzada Farhan (up one place to fifth) and Salman Agha (up 13 places to 41st) also made gains after finishing with aggregates of 61 and 60 runs respectively. Left-arm seamer Salman Mirza rose 16 places to 19th after taking three wickets in the series.
