β€” NY Tri-State Youth Dev secured a convincing five-wicket victory over Combermere School in a league match of the 2026 Sir Garfield Sobers International Under-19 Cricket Tournament, chasing down 190 with 61 balls to spare at Foundation School on Thursday.

After electing to field, NY Tri-State produced a disciplined bowling display to dismiss Combermere School for 189 in 38.4 overs before a composed batting effort, led by Ajay Prithiviraj's 70, carried the side to 190/5 in 29.5 overs.

Combermere made a steady start through Vinode Dhanraj and Khalik Forte, who added 40 for the opening wicket before Dhanraj was run out for 22. Forte then combined with Omari Daniel-Hood in a 69-run stand for the second wicket, stabilizing the innings after the early breakthrough.

Forte top-scored with 55 from 66 deliveries, striking four fours and two sixes, while Daniel-Hood contributed 23. Josh Reid added 18 before Combermere suffered a middle-order collapse that shifted momentum firmly toward NY Tri-State.

Left-arm seamer Ishaan Unnithan produced the decisive spell, claiming 3 for 15 from five overs. He removed Josh Reid, Joshua Stephens-Mayers and captain Javed Worrell in a disciplined display that stalled Combermere's progress. Raghav Prabhune supported with 2 for 34, while Arun Gainda, Malay Patel and Ajay Prithiviraj claimed one wicket apiece. Azarique Butcher-Lewis provided late resistance with 29, but Combermere were bowled out for 189.

NY Tri-State's chase began cautiously as Laksh Warty and Vir Ajmera fell inside the opening four overs, reducing the visitors to 12/2.

Aarav Chopra and Ajay Prithiviraj then rebuilt the innings with an 81-run partnership for the third wicket. Chopra struck 38 from 43 balls, hitting five boundaries before captain Javed Worrell ended the stand.

Prithiviraj remained in control throughout the chase, compiling 70 from 75 deliveries with six fours and three sixes. His measured innings laid the platform for victory before Khalik Forte dismissed him in the 27th over with the target well within reach.

Ishaan Unnithan completed an outstanding all-round performance by remaining unbeaten on 37 from 38 balls, sharing valuable partnerships through the closing stages. After Raghav Prabhune contributed a quick 10, Dave Mohabir finished the chase in style with an unbeaten nine from four deliveries, including two boundaries, as NY Tri-State reached 190/5.

Forte was Combermere's standout bowler, taking 3 for 31 in seven overs, while Worrell and Omari Daniel-Hood claimed one wicket each. However, 20 wides conceded by Combermere added significantly to NY Tri-State's chase.

The victory gives NY Tri-State Youth Dev valuable early momentum in the league stage of the Sir Garfield Sobers International Under-19 Cricket Tournament, while Combermere School will look to regroup quickly as they seek their first points of the competition.
