ROSEDALE, N.Y. — Freddie Pestano struck a superb 104 to lead Atlantis Cricket Club–New York (ACC-NY) to a thrilling 11-run victory over American Cricket Society (ACS), sending the boys in green and yellow to the top of the Metropolitan Cricket League Clement “Busta” Lawrence Premier 40-Overs standings.

The closely contested encounter, played last Sunday at Idlewild Cricket Ground in Rosedale, New York, featured two of the league’s top teams. Entering the match, ACC-NY held an 8-1 record, while ACS stood at 8-0-1.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, ACC-NY posted a competitive 251 for 8 from its allotted 40 overs. The total appeared well within reach of ACS’s powerful batting lineup, but disciplined bowling and astute field placements by stand-in captain Oraine Williams restricted ACS to 240 all out in 39.4 overs.

Pestano anchored the Atlantis innings with a magnificent 104 from 100 deliveries, smashing eight sixes and four boundaries before being caught by Amaranth Persaud off the bowling of Michail Powell. His innings was highlighted by a 105-run opening partnership with Tristan Coleman, who contributed a fluent 54, including eight fours and one six, before falling to Keith Edie.

Coming on the heels of a disappointing 167-run defeat to Villagers Sports Club the previous Sunday, Pestano’s century was both timely and inspirational. His composed yet aggressive approach demonstrated his successful transition to the top of the ACC-NY batting order and laid the foundation for a much-needed victory.

Oraine Williams added 21, while Diquan Murray remained unbeaten on 20 to provide valuable late-order support.

Raymond Ramrattan led the ACS bowling attack with outstanding figures of 4 for 46 from eight overs, while Keith Edie claimed 3 for 42 from eight overs. ACC-NY’s wickets fell at 105, 109, 141, 142, 164, 215, 215, and 215.

In reply, ACS mounted a determined chase but ultimately fell just short. David Dewar top-scored with 56 before being run out, while Bhaskar Yadram also contributed 37 before suffering the same fate. Kwame Patton Jr. added 33, captain Akeem Dewar scored 32, and Sachin Singh chipped in with 31, keeping ACS within striking distance throughout the innings.

Marvin “Jadu” Prashad spearheaded the ACC-NY bowling effort with figures of 3 for 50 from eight overs. Seven other bowlers shared the remaining wickets, while sharp fielding accounted for two crucial run-outs that proved decisive in the closing stages.

ACS lost wickets at 19, 48, 48, 113, 142, 178, 201, 233, 240, and 240, handing ACC-NY a hard-fought victory that lifted the club to the summit of the league standings.

The victory marks an impressive bounce-back performance and reinforces ACC-NY’s championship credentials as the Metropolitan Cricket League season heads into its decisive stretch.
