News July 15, 2015 admin 0

July 13th 2015 – The Orange County Cricket Association’s Cougars recorded their first win against the Southern California Cricket Association’s Kings on July 12 at the Marder Field, Woodley, Los Angeles. The victory follows the OC Cougars recent defeat of the 2014 South West Regional Champions Arizona Scorpions, as the Cougars extended their good run of form.

Southern California Kings won the toss and elected to bat on a good pitch that looked like it would favor the team batting first. The Orange County Cougars bowlers kept a good line and length and were rewarded by early Southern California Kings wickets. The Southern California Kings were soon struggling at 28 for 4 in the 12th over, however. Ali (65) offered some resistance and punished the bad balls, although he was helped by a few dropped catches by the OC Cougars, he managed to top all scorers. There was little resistance from the other Southern California Kings batsmen, and the team was restricted to 145 all out. Ayeshan, Harman, Vinny and Hari each took two wickets, in a solid display of disciplined bowling.

Chasing 146 to win, the OC Cougars’ opening batsmen started the inning with confidence, scoring quickly, and losing their first wicket in the 8th over with 47 runs on the board. Shaveen timed the ball well and scored freely for his 34. Kanishka (26) got together with Asad (16) and then later with Arman (36 n.o.) to chase down the Southern California Kings total. Arman timed the ball well and batted responsibly to top score with 36 not out. Vinny (16 n.o.) provided an exciting cameo at the end of the innings to finish things off. The Orange County Cougars were able to complete the win in the 28th over. The Southern California Kings bowlers bowled well in a losing effort, but were always going to struggle to defend the small total, and with only 10 players on the field.

The Orange County Cougars and Arizona Scorpions have now won two games each, while Southern California Kings has yet to record a win in this year’s tournament.  The Orange County Cougars will again take on the Southern California Kings on August 29th at the Orange County Cougars home ground, Centennial Regional Park.
