Empire Cricket Club defeated Rangers Cricket Club by a comprehensive 88-run margin on Sunday as action continued in this year’s New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) 40-overs cricket competition at Lido Beach facility.

Empire Cricket Club who opened their campaign against Meter-Meer-Zorg with a 3-wicket defeat but rebounded the following week to beat New York Titans, before three successive defeats against Melbourne New York Alliance Club, Black Panthers Cricket Club and Team United Fighters Club gathered up a sufficient 263 all out in the 40th over while Rangers, in response, were all out for 175 off 30.4 overs.

Frontline batsman Rejaul Rajel cracked an impressive 74-ball 84 for Empire Cricket Club to be the top-scorer. He got good contributions from Dassram Raghunandan and Ken Alphonso with 56 and 38 respectively. The confident Rajel struck seven fours and two sixes.

Leg-spinner Tanvir Ahmed Sami captured 3-33 from six overs to be the most successful bowler for Rangers. Hasanul Karim and Anamul Haque Naeem claimed two wickets apiece to offer assistance on a pitch that deemed animated.

In Rangers’ innings, Mahmud Albad batted with a great degree of resilience by knocking a fine 64 and 26 from Adib Fazlul.

Right-arm seamer Samuel Mahabir finished with 3-42 from 7.4 steady overs while left-arm quickie Kenly Adams also accounted for three victims for 43 runs in his seven-over stint. Skipper and leg spinner Brandon Cabose supported with 2-29 also from seven decent overs.

The fourteen-team round-robin tournament is slated to continue this Sunday with another series of matches. Debutant side Empire Cricket Club will lock horns with Phoenix Cricket Club at Whitestone venue.
