May 17, 2016 – Coming off a great win for the first match of the 2016 season against Atlantis Cricket Club – NY, Galaxy Cricket Club (GCC) took to their home-ground to take on Gladiators Cricket Club last Sunday.

Despite some chilly and windy weather conditions, GCC elected to field after winning the toss in hopes that they could prevent the first innings from going the maximum 40 overs. GCC’s opening bowler Telston Johnson wasted no time in snatching Gladiators’ first wicket of Melvin Shewprasad in the third over.

Johnson went on to bowl seven overs for a total of 18 runs, to help GCC keep Gladiators at a total of 133 runs.

However, the man to watch, would be none other than Keeran Krishna. Coming off an impressive 8-1-22-6 wicket game the previous weekend against Atlantis, Keeran once again stepped up for GCC and snatched 3 wickets off his 6 overs, giving up only 17 runs in the process. Contributions from Metray Balgobin (2 wickets), Shiv Raghubar (1 wicket), and Inzy Khan (1 wicket) boosted GCC to bowl out Gladiators for a total of 133 in 34 overs.

With a chase of 134 runs and chilly and windy conditions, GCC hoped to close out the match in as few overs as possible. Tamesh Balwant and Naresh Persaud (16 runs) took first strike for GCC and put Galaxy in a great position to start off the second inning.

Despite losing two partners, Balwant stood his ground and rallied a total of 33 runs off 50 balls including fours 4s. Fourth man in, Troy Mars, stepped up for GCC with a crucial 37 runs off 37 balls (not out) to help boost Galaxy’s total of 139 for the win over Gladiators Cricket Club in only 25.1 overs. Contributions from skipper Yudesh Bissnauth (7 runs) and Inzy Khan (15 runs) saved a few Galaxy men from having to bat in the unforgiving cold and windy conditions.

It was another great win for GCC, and it leaves them undefeated with a record of 2-0 for the season!
