Girls Division Hits The Home Stretch, Looks Toward Playoff Seeding Girls Division Hits The Home Stretch, Looks Toward Playoff Seeding

Coming into the final weekend of regular season play, the Ellicott City girls side, led by the competition’s leading run-scorer Arushi Acharya, is in control of its destiny, leading the two Bowie sides by two points. But that could all change on Saturday afternoon, as the EC ladies host Bowie 2 at Faulkner Ridge. Bowie 2’s power-packed lineup boasts three of the division’s top batters, Bree Mullikin, Alicia Fernando and Annika Hart. If Bowie scores the upset Saturday, then the top-seeded side for the playoffs would come down to net run rate. Even in this, however, Ellicott City brings a clear advantage into the match, and need only to stave off a blowout to maintain its place at the top.

In the day’s other match, Chantilly brings hot-hitting Preethikhaa Raja to Whitehall ES to face Bowie 1, where they hope to register their first win of the season. The hosts, however, have not one, but a trio of consistent scorers in Leah Lykes, Stephie Janey and Jenna Knight. There’s a lot at stake, as the loser of this match falls into the bottom spot in the points table going into the playoffs.

The final of the girls division will be played in the afternoon on June 23 at Spencerville Park in Burtonsville during Maryland Youth Cricket’s daylong Festival of Cricket.
