Commonwealth Cricket League
On Sunday August, 19th, a beautiful day for cricket Nationals Cricket Club hosted United Sports Club in a 25 Overs Final in the Commonwealth Cricket League played at Randall’s Island Field.

United Sports Club won the toss and elected to take first strike which paid off handsomely scoring 259 runs off of the allotted 25 overs for the lost of 2 wickets.

Steve Massiah who will be leading the U.S.A. team in Malaysia to compete in the ICC Division 4 Competition from Sept. 1-11, 2012. He opened the innings with Hemchand Hardeo. The pair put on a total of 117 runs from 13 overs before Steve Massiah succumb for a well played 80 runs. In the 13th over of the innings he took the maximum 30 runs off 5 deliveries from Ramesh’s 3rd over and on the final delivery he went for another massive heave to make it 6×6’s but was brilliantly caught at wide mid on within a yard from the boundary board. He has been magnificent in his shot selection and pace his inning well for the other batsmen to follows. His innings consisted of 9 huge 6’s and 3×4’s. He has been in terrific form this season with the bat scoring 659 runs at an average of 74.89 runs. This obviously is his last game before leaving for Malaysia.

Hard hitting youth 19 years old Dino Chow Wee Nam strode to the wicket to join Hemchand Hardeo who was doing well to turn over the strike to Steve Massiah while he was at the wicket. With Steve departure Hardeo and Dino both put their feet to the metal and up the tempo with some hard hitting to the end, unfortunately in the 25th and final over Hardeo knows that he needed 9 runs to score his first century of the Season went for a big hit and was caught for a well played 91 runs which includes 7×6’s and 7×4’s. Dino on the other hand was hitting the ball at will, scoring 60 runs not out in the 12 overs that he was at the crease. His innings consist of 7 huge 6’s and 2×4’s.

Bowling for Nationals Ramesh picked up the 2 wickets that fell.

Nationals in reply scored 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 25 overs. L. Jackman scored a well played 50 runs retired hurt and A. Singh 48 runs.

Bowling for United Sports Club Brian Ramkelawan and Rennie picked up 2 wickets each.

United Sports Club won the Game by 100 runs.
