Last year Massachusetts State Cricket League (MSCL) hosted the first-ever “sMASSh T20 Carnival” cricket tournament during the Labor Day Weekend (Aug 30 – Sept 1, 2014) with a cash prize of $6,000. Participating local club teams and franchises that participated included Commonwealth CC, Golden Eagles, Crowned Eagles, Lagaan CC, NECC, St Columba CC and Oxford Knights, as well as visiting teams Strikers and Punjab CC from New York, Kings XI from New Jersey and NECC from Philadelphia. Each paying an entrance fee of $500. each.

Over 200 players actively participated in the 2014 tournament, with thousands of spectators flocking the various venues in Boston and Wrentham. They were in for a treat as they witnessed some absolutely spectacular, high octane cricket over the long weekend. Some highlights that will be etched in the memories of both the players and spectators for a long time, are a couple of swashbuckling T20 centuries, a hat-trick, a breath-taking last ball and many other towering sixes and sMASShing fours.

The top two teams of the competition – Conway CC, a long time MSCL member club, and Punjab CC, comprised of incredibly talented cricketers from New York, rightfully played the grand finale which made for fascinating viewing with more than 800 spectators gathered around Franklin Field in Boston, to witness the spectacle, and what a spectacle it was. Punjab CC played some excellent cricket throughout the tournament and in the finals, and was deservedly crowned champions. They were rewarded with a $5,000 check, while Conway CC won $1,000. as the runner-up, along with trophies presented to both teams.
