Liberty Cricket Club and Meten Meer Zorg played to a trilling tie to begin the 2011 season. The match which was played at Jacob Riis Park in Brooklyn saw LCC winning the toss and electing to bat first. The game was reduced to 35 of the allotted 40 overs due to the umpires showing up late.

Liberty posted a solid 195 for 7 in their 35 overs. In reply MMZ equaled the task with 8 wickets down in a trilling finish to a much anticipated season opener.

Taking first strike LCC lost opener, Bose Persaud, number three batsman, Lawrence Shoy and number four, Vickey Khilawan with the score in the 30′s. A rebuilding effort by Dilly Khilawan and Micheal Noble rescued the team with 150+ runs partnership. Dilly Khilawan finished on 80 while Noble saw his team to the last ball, finishing unbeaten on 74.

Bowling for MMZ Shahid Bilal picked up 3 for 31 and was supported by Saumil Gandhi 2 for 32 of their maximum 7 overs allotment.

At their turn to bat MMZ lost opener Ajaz Asgarally and number 3 batsman Amarnauth Persaud early for 10 and 2 respectively. Similar to the plot of LCC’s innings Azurdeen (Andy) Mohammed & Zaaed Majeed steered the ship back in the right direction for MMZ. Mohammed knocked a chancy 53 after being put down 4 times and Zaaed Majeed stroked 66.

The game wound down to a MMZ needing 8 off the final Micheal Noble over. LCC managed to hold the batsmen to 5 off the first five balls before surrendering 2 runs off the last ball as the MMZ team erupted in jubilation having staved off a first week loss.

Brothers Dharamraj (Vidour) and Latchman (Chabby) Singh picked up 2 for 21 and 20 respectively while Noble bowled 7 overs for 30 runs and picked up 2 wickets. Lawrence Shoy bowled an economical 7 overs for 17 runs for LCC.

The result is a drastic improvement for LCC who last year in the opening match against MMZ were bowled out for 59 trying to chase 259.

The teams will share 3 points each on the EACA points table going into the second week where LCC will face Bayshore Tigers CC at Brentwood 1 and MMZ taking on Hillside Sports Club at Bay Park.
