Washington Metropolitan Cricket Board
Washington Metropolitan Cricket Board (WMCB) hosted the second edition of the Maryland Cup sponsored by the PG County over the Labor Day Weekend (Aug 30-Sep 1, 2014) at Oxon Hill as well as WCC Turf Park facilities. Mavericks were crowned the 2014 champions after chasing a truncated target as rain intervened during the final. Richardson Sacrais (4-1-12-3) bowled brilliantly to restrict a spirited Challengers side to 89 for 7 in 14.3 overs before rain prematurely ended the Challengers’ inning. With the game reduced to 5 overs, and Mavericks chasing about a run a ball, the batsmen blasted their way to 31/3 in only 2.4 overs to give Mavericks the title.

Earlier, during the semi-final games, Mavericks overcame a tough Washington CC side that has dominated proceedings for most of the season. Bowling first, Mavericks ran through the Washington batting line-up to bowl them out for 84, and then chased the total within 12 overs with 7 wickets to spare. Sardar Ahmed starred with the bat hitting 55 runs. In the other semi-final at WCC Turf Park, Challengers fought for a hard-earned win against Washington Turf Club. Chasing 116 set by Washington Turf Club, Mirza Baig scored an unbeaten 55 to lead the Challengers to a win and a place in the Maryland Cup final.
