Excellent bowling from Sahir Azmat and Grace Richards condemned the home team to a limp batting display which was followed up by good batting from the experienced Joy Jones which steered New York to a comfortable four-wicket victory at the Watssing Park.  Jones top scored with 40 as New York made 125 runs for six wickets in reply to New Jersey who were restricted to 124 all out.

New York was helped by a healthy serving of wides, totaling 36 in a match where there were extras galore.  Beulah Pizakaza bagged two wickets for 25 runs and Amahit Arora 2-31 for New Jersey who were spearhead by a fine 45 from veteran Doris Francis when they batted. Extras were the next highest contributor with 29. Azmat and Richards wrecked New Jersey’s batting by scalping 3-0 and 4-36 respectively while they got solid support from Samantha Ramoutar with 2-34.

New Jersey Phoenix will have a chance to amend when they take on the powerful Tri State Lynx in the next match on Saturday at Gateway Park in Brooklyn.
