The New York Cricket Region Under-19 team completed an undefeated outing during the 2010 USACA Eastern Conference National Tournament.
The “Big Apple” boys defeated: Atlantic Region by eight runs on day 1, South East by twenty-six runs on day 2, and was forced to settle for a “no result” contest against the North East Region due to inclement weather. New York finished on top of the points table with nine points, while South East, and North East finished with five points each.
The New York Region must be commended for its excellent outing despite the lack of experience players at the U-19 regional level. Only Skipper Azrudeen Mohammed, Ileo Freeman, and “PSAL Cricket of the Year” Kavishwar Bridgepaul have represented the region at the U-19 level, but the wealth of others such as Casper Jr. Davis, Maurice Powell, Marlon Persaud, Trevor Singh, Triston Carmichael, Rocky Kowchai, Amarnauth Persaud, Samiul Gandhi, Trevis Ross, Abrar Zafar, and under-15 all-rounder Zahib Tariq contributed to the team’s recent success.
It’s likely that youngsters such as Regis Burton, Prashanth Nair, Cameron Mirza, and Rasheem James whom were unavailable for this tournament would make a strong bid for selection in the upcoming Junior Nationals Championships.
New York and South East will advance from the Eastern Conference, while North West and South West will advance from the Western Conference. The four teams will compete for the USACA Nationals Junior Championships sometime later this year.
