Saiteja Mukkamalla’s 79 and Harmeet Singh’s Four-For Seal Big Victory for USA
The United States of America delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat the Netherlands by 93 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
After the Netherlands elected to field, the USA posted an imposing 196 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by a superb knock from Saiteja Mukkamalla and a late flourish from Shubham Ranjane.

The American innings began briskly despite the early loss of Shayan Jahangir, who fell for 20 in the third over. Captain Monank Patel looked in fine touch, striking 36 off 22 balls with three fours and a six, helping the USA to 82 by the end of the ninth over. However, the Dutch bowlers clawed back briefly when Bas de Leede removed both Patel and later Milind Kumar to finish with three wickets.
The backbone of the innings was Mukkamalla’s classy 79 off 51 deliveries. Displaying a blend of composure and controlled aggression, he struck five fours and four sixes, keeping the scoreboard ticking through the middle overs. His 54-run partnership with Ranjane shifted the momentum decisively in the Americans’ favor.
Ranjane then provided the final surge, smashing an unbeaten 48 from just 24 balls at a strike rate of 200. His calculated assault in the death overs ensured the USA finished just one run short of the 200-mark, setting the Netherlands a daunting target of 197.

In response, the Netherlands faltered early and never recovered. Nosthush Kenjige set the tone by removing Michael Levitt in the second over, and from there the American bowlers maintained relentless pressure.
The star of the night was Harmeet Singh, who delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 21 in four overs. Mixing accuracy with subtle variations, he dismantled the Dutch middle order, including key wickets such as Max O’Dowd, Bas de Leede, and captain Scott Edwards. His ability to strike at crucial intervals derailed any hopes of a steady chase.
Shadley van Schalkwyk complemented him brilliantly, claiming 3 for 21, while Mohammad Mohsin chipped in with two wickets. The Dutch innings folded for just 103 in 15.5 overs, falling well short of the target.
Bas de Leede top-scored with 23, and Scott Edwards contributed 20, but no batter managed to anchor the innings long enough to threaten the American total. Regular wickets and mounting scoreboard pressure proved too much for the European side.
Harmeet Singh’s all-round contribution — though modest with the bat — and his decisive four-wicket haul earned him the Player of the Match award.
