Lawrence Shoy, Michael Noble, Bose Persaud and Mahadeo ‘Pacy’ Motana took the top prizes as Liberty Cricket Club celebrated it’s 2010 season at their 1st Annual Dinner and Dance on January 22nd.The celebratory event held at the ‘Hall of Lights’ in South Ozone Park, Queens commemorated the Club’s 1 year anniversary and the cricket team making it to the second division final of the Eastern American Cricket League.

In a presentation ceremony during the event the club honored its players and supporters who have all contributed to a successful year .

Lawrence Shoy took the top award for the season’s Most Valuable Player while Michael Noble took the playoff MVP award. Bose Persaud was named the all round player of the year while Pacy Motana copped the 2010 Best Bowler award. Dilly Khilawan also scored a star player award for his semi-final half century which played a pivotal roll in getting the team into the final.

The hard hitting, right handed, Shoy topped the team’s batting statistics when he accumulated 308 runs in 8 innings which included 4 half-centuries and a highest of 59. Shoy sported the highest batting average of the team also with 38.50. The St. Vincent native also bagged 8 wickets at an average of 20.13 and a economy rate of just over 5 runs per over.

Michael Noble, who strung together a remarkable performance in the team’s final 5, 40-over matches, was rewarded with the playoff MVP award. Noble struck 153 runs in 5 innings at an average of 38.25.

The former Berbice and Guyana youth player blasted the Club’s first century with 104 in the semi-final against Long Island United. He complemented his fine stroke play with the bat with some equally brilliant performances with the ball. Noble snatched up 11 wickets at an average of 9.73 and an economy rate of 3.57.

Bose Persaud who registered a 5-wicket haul in the team’s very first match took the all round player of the year. He finished with the second highest runs aggregate (186) and tied for the most wickets (12) with Pacy Motana. Pacy finished the season as the most successful bowler with an average of 21.33 per wicket and an economy rate 4.19 for his 12 wickets.

Dilly was honored for his batting performance in the semi-final when he scored a season best 51. Additionally Core Player awards were handed out to Captain Vickey Khilawan, Vice-Captain Danesh Deonarain. Dharamraj Singh, Terry Persaud, Chris Singh and Robin Persaud were also Core Player award recipients.

A special youth player award was presented by EACA league president, Rudy Persaud, to Akshay Mahadeo. While presenting the award Mr. Persaud highlighted the club’s performance in their first year while wishing the team a successful 2011. “In their first year as a team playing together Liberty Cricket preformed beyond expectation when they got to the second devision playoff and lost narrowly in the Final,” Persaud said.

“The club’s star player, Michael Noble, also represented the League in the New York Premier League tournament where he was named the Most Valuable Player in the final,” Persaud highlighted.

Team players awards were presented to John Mangar, Insaf ‘Amir’ Ally, Ashley Osmand, Insaf ‘Harmi’ Khan, Danny Khilawan & Jason Thomas. The club’s behind the seen supporters were also honored when medals were peresented to Sherita Khilawan, Ashi Ghouse, Radha Persaud, Nadia Singh, Sarwan, Bibi Machado, Jessisca Machado, Elizbeth Machado & Avita Sukhram.

The club highlighted the criticality of its 2010 sponsors Golden Apple Restaurant & Catering and Hibiscus Restaurant & Bar in the successful completion of a year in existence. Acknowledgement awards were presented to both of the establishments. Also highlighted was LCC’s advertisement of both of those sponsors on LibertyCricket.com and WiCricNews.com.

The event was concluded with a night of celebration in typical West Indian fashion with dancing and cheers’ing to some of the latest tunes.
