Stallions Survive Somerset Cavaliers Scare to Register Crucial Win
The East Division of Minor League Cricket witnessed a tense contest on September 1, 2025, as the New Jersey Stallions edged past the Somerset Cavaliers by three wickets with just three balls remaining. The victory, played out under pressure in Davis, highlighted the composure of Jasdeep Singh, whose all-round contribution earned him the Player of the Match award.
The Cavaliers, asked to bat first after the Stallions won the toss, put together a competitive total of 151 for four in their 20 overs. Opener Chandrapaul Hemraj gave them a lively start with 30 off 23 balls, striking four sixes. His partner, Kennar Kevon Lewis, added a brisk 15 before falling early. Ali Imran and Gajanand Singh then steadied the innings with patient knocks of 37 and 27, respectively, though both struggled to accelerate against tight bowling.

The innings seemed destined for a modest finish until Kevin Christian changed gears spectacularly at the death. Blazing an unbeaten 27 from just seven balls, including two fours and three sixes, he propelled the Cavaliers to 151. For the Stallions, left-arm spinner Stephen Wiig was outstanding, conceding just 10 runs in his four overs and claiming two wickets. Support came from Sachin Mylavarapu and Siddarth Matani, who picked up a wicket apiece.
Chasing 152, the Stallions got off to a strong start thanks to openers Dominique Rikhi and Akshay Homraj. Rikhi played the anchor role with 33 from 42 balls, while Homraj cut loose at the other end, smashing 38 from 22 with seven boundaries. Their 73-run stand set a solid platform, but the Cavaliers roared back as Salman Nazar produced a superb spell. The spinner removed both openers and added two more scalps to finish with figures of 4 for 8 from his four overs, dismantling the Stallions’ top order.
At 84 for five, the chase appeared to be slipping away, but Jasdeep Singh steadied the innings. Showing calm under pressure, he struck 35 off 23 balls, including four towering sixes, keeping the run rate in check. Though he was run out with the target still in sight, his knock ensured the lower order had the cushion to finish the job.
Arjun Vajjalla chipped in with 14 before Ali Imran removed him, but Anirudh Immanuel’s unbeaten 12 from five balls and a quickfire 6 from Stephen Wiig sealed the win in the final over.
With this result, the Stallions strengthened their position in the East Division, while the Cavaliers were left to reflect on missed opportunities despite Nazar’s brilliance. Jasdeep Singh’s decisive innings underlined why he was chosen as Player of the Match, guiding his team to a hard-fought victory.
