Former West Indies player Stefanie Power.

The tournament slated for this Memorial Day Weekend – May 24-25 in Atlanta, GA will see back-to-back (2012 and 2013) champions Atlantis Cricket Club – NY, challenged by Cayman Islands, Texas ThunderboltZ, Can Am United, an Invitational XI, and host Atlanta Pearls.

Ms. Power will be Atlantis’ head coach alongside recently appointed Atlantis player/coach Catherine Joy Jones, herself a former West Indies and USA national player. In addition to keeping an eye on Atlantis, Ms. Power has volunteered her services to the other participating teams during her stay in Atlanta, an offer welcomed by Tournament Coordinator, Petal Samuels, who said, “We appreciate the cricket clinic support of Ms. Power, particularly with regard to the younger players participating in the tournament. Our mission at GWCA is to basically provide an opportunity and a platform for women’s cricket to grow in the USA. Last year we were blessed with having current West Indies and international star batswoman Stafanie Taylor, as the West Indies Women’s Cricket Ambassador, and through the kind courtesy of Atlantis Cricket Club.  This year we are once again grateful, that Atlantis is making it possible for a person of the stature of Ms. Power to be a part of the tournament.”

Ms. Power a Trinidad & Tobago Secondary school teacher and certified Level II cricket coach, made her Test debut for the West Indies women against Pakistan, at Karachi in 2004, as a wicketkeeper batswoman. She has played 34 ODIs and represented the West Indies at three ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups, between 1993 and 2005. The UK trained coach said she was looking forward to the Atlanta tournament.

The only certified female trainer in the western hemisphere, Ms. Power was made an Honorary Member of Atlantis Cricket Club – NY in 2012. She simply loves coaching and willingly volunteers her services as a tutor/trainer, preparing men and women to become certified cricket coaches throughout the Caribbean and the USA.

The Atlanta Women’s T20 will take place at Burdett and Creel Parks, in Atlanta and Creel Park, Georgia, respectively. All matches start at 10:00am and 2:00pm, with the finals scheduled for 2:00pm on Sunday, May 25, at Creel Park, 2775 Creel Road, Creel Park, GA.
