Syed’s 115 Sets Up Dramatic Victory for Pak America at Cunningham Park
A breathtaking contest unfolded at Cunningham Park on Oct. 26, 2025, as Pak America triumphed over Meeri Peeri by just four runs in the Commonwealth Cricket League (CCL) 2025 T20 Afternoon Division I (Super Premier) clash. The match, showcased explosive batting, sharp fielding, and nerve-wracking drama right until the final ball.
After losing the toss, Pak America were sent in to bat, and the decision initially seemed to favor Meeri Peeri’s bowlers. However, what followed was a magnificent display of power hitting from Abdullah Syed, who stole the show with a stunning 115 off 59 balls, smashing six boundaries and ten towering sixes — four of them coming in succession. His innings was a masterclass in timing and aggression, laying the foundation for a massive total.

Syed found excellent support from Talha Khan, who scored a fluent 43 off 27 balls, peppering seven crisp fours. The pair stitched together a commanding opening partnership of 98 runs before Talha was trapped lbw by Sajawal Malik, who proved to be Meeri Peeri’s most effective bowler. Malik finished with figures of 4-0-28-2, keeping his team in contention amid the onslaught.
Despite losing a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Pak America maintained their momentum thanks to Syed’s relentless stroke play. Captain Hunain Munir contributed a handy 17 off 16 balls, while Hammad Hasan’s cameo of 6 off 3 ensured the team closed their innings on a formidable 196 for 3 in 20 overs.
Meeri Peeri’s reply started in style, with Mohammad Umar and Chandeep Singh giving their side a flying start. Umar blasted 24 off 12 balls, including two sixes, before falling to Hammad Hasan. Chandeep continued the assault, scoring 45 off 28 balls with five fours and two sixes, keeping the required rate within reach.
The middle order, anchored by Gursewak Singh (36 off 36) and Ammu Singh (32 off 17), kept Meeri Peeri alive in the chase. Ammu’s quick-fire innings, featuring three sixes, injected fresh hope into the camp as the run rate soared. However, tight bowling from Ameer Hamza (1/31) and Waheed Akhtar (1/30) in the death overs pegged them back just in time.
The final overs saw Gori Maxi wage a lone battle with a blistering 42 off 26 balls, threatening to pull off a memorable win. With 14 needed off the last over, Pak America held their nerve, conceding only nine runs to seal a narrow four-run victory.
Abdullah Syed’s explosive century rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award. His innings proved to be the difference in a contest where both teams batted brilliantly but Pak America’s composure in crunch moments made the final difference.
The win keeps Pak America’s momentum strong in the Super Premier division, while Meeri Peeri, despite the loss, can take pride in their spirited chase that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end.
