Trevis Ross Half Century Enables Meten-Meer-Zorg Win Over Long Island United

In glorious sunshine at Brentwood Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) took on Long Island United Cricket Club (LIU), it was LIU who won the toss and decided to take first strike on a wicket that seems to be a good batting pitch.

The young pacer Rocky Kowchai and the inform Rayhanul Islam began the proceeding for the MMZ Sajid Khan and U. Ali opened the batting for LIU, Kowchai was getting the ball to come back from outside the off stump and as Ali played back he was comprehensively bowled  for 5, followed by Khan caught for 6 off Kowchai.  Islam delivering a series of out swingers induced an edge from Waqas Shahid’s bat which in turn feathered a catch to wicket keeper Asgarally low down to his right.  Asim Khan played aggressively hitting Islam for a massive six over backward square, followed up with a square cut for four.

Skipper Andy Mohammed made a double change bringing on Rawle Hoyte and the left arm spinner Hemendra Ramdihall to lead the attack.  Anwer Khan, looking hopeful was batting well with Asim until the pair attempted a sharp single and Anwer was brilliantly run out by Deonauth Baksh just short off his ground.  Asim advanced on 33 as he played across to a quicker delivery from Ramdihall.  At that point Mohammed intervened and replaced Ramdihall and had Asim well caught by Islam for a deserving 33. Islam being brought back along with Trevis Ross in an inspiring bowling display cleaned up the remainder of the LIU innings.  They eventually were bowled out for 174.

Bowling for MMZ:  Kowchai 8-1-26-2, Islam 8-1-30-2, Hoyte 4-1-9-0, Ramdihall 7-0-22-2, Persaud 7-1-19-0, Mohammed 2-0-19-1 and Ross 2.1-0-5-2.

MMZ commenced their innings with skipper Azurdeen Mohammed and Ken Nandkumar. Qasim and the young pacer Anwer Khan took up the attack for LIU.  Khan did the early damage, bowled Nandkumar as he was attempting a big hit. The dependable Deonauth Baksh walked in to take strike but was adjudged LBW first ball.  Skipper Mohammed found another sound ally in newly appointed USA under 17 Captain Trevis Ross and the pair in their own aggressive manner dominated the crease hitting some glorious shots across the picturesque Brentwood outfield.

Qasim made an early crucial breakthrough with an unwarranted in swinger claiming the dangerous Mohammed who in perfect batting form was unfortunately trapped LBW.   MMZ at that stage sensing some trouble with the departure of their top three batsmen for only 50 on the board.  It was Saud Husaain who joined Ross to revive the stuttering innings and the pair batted well with Ross hitting the white ball neatly, caressing it to the boundary.   Hussain being caught by a sharp lifting delivery from Ishtique Khan for 12 ushered in another promising USA Player Amarnauth Persaud to take charge of the crease.  It took a spanking straight drive for four from Ross to bring up his battling half century , the pair took the score to 140 before Persaud  hit a massive six over backward square, was gunning  to make it two in a row before holding out to the man on the boundary.  Ramdihall joined Ross with MMZ in good position well on course for victory, lost the valuable Ross from a good ball that took the edge and well caught for a superb innings of 65 which includes 8 glorious fours and 2 massive sixes.  Ramdihall and Kowchai helped MMZ to a well deserved victory finishing on 175 for 7 off 22.1 overs.

Final scores: LIU 174 all out off 38.1 overs. MMZ 174 for 7 off 22.1 overs.

MMZ now on 40 points hoping to finish strong with four games remaining.
