In the first match of the ICC Americas Division 1 Championship, Argentina won the toss and elected to field. Malachi Jones struck early blows for Bermuda and Argentina struggled to put together any sort of partnership. Indeed, Argentina waited until the 16th over to record their first boundary. Gary Savages watchful 38 anchored the innings as Argentina totaled 93-8. Jones and O’Brien were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Bermuda saw only one batsman reach double figures, Cann scored 55 not out and was the difference between the teams. Argentina made Bermuda fight all the way after picking up the prize wicket of Hemp early on. MacDermott’s 3-9 in the middle of the innings made for a tense finish but the experience of Cann saw him guide the lower order past the finish line, finishing the game with 2 sixes.

In the second match of the day the USA beat Suriname by 50 runs D/L. The USA won the toss and elected to bat and totaled 124-2 from 13 overs, Roopnarine batting through the innings for 59 not out. Oemraw was the pick of the Suriname bowlers with 1-14. In reply Suriname reached 42-1 before wickets started to tumble in the quest for quick runs. Boodram top scored with 25 and was supported by Drepaul who scored 17. It was the Suriname running that contributed to their downfall more than the USA bowlers, with 4 wickets falling to run outs.

In the final match of the day Canada won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 130-7 from their allotted overs with Wadia top scoring with 40, and useful contributions from Hansra and Limbada. Morris was the pick of the Cayman Islands attack with 3-21.

In reply the Cayman Islands struggled to a total of 66-7, losing wickets regularly to a range of rash shots. Their top scorer was the veteran Pearson Best with 21 with no other batter reaching double figures. The pick of the Canadian bowlers were Hussain 4-7 and Siddiqui 2-8, both bowling their spin to good effect.

Today will see the USA take on the Cayman Islands, Bermuda face off against Suriname and finally Argentina and Canada in the day night match.
