Another Volcano Erupt
By James Persaud

For the second week straight there was another Volcano eruption and this time it was the Volcano skipper himself Shawn Singh blasting a century-102 not out. And the second week this team scored well over 200 runs. Shawn had 10 sixes and 4 fours after winning the toss and decided to bat first. The opening pair was L. Persaud and Ramjit Jitlall who made a century last week. Volcano lost their first wicket via the run out route that of L. Persaud in the second over with 12 runs in the book.

Volcano skipper Shaw Singh led from the from front with an unbeaten 102. against Crown XI.

S. Ali went in and was bowled in the third over without scoring and the total on 15. At this stage things weren’t looking so good. Shawn captain of Volcano’s went in and played some superbly and exciting shots and put the team in a position to stop the damage by Crown XI. He had a nice partnership with F. Alli who made a quick blistering 30 runs, and put the team in a position for a big total. This was a good recovery especially after the horrendous start the team had losing 3 wickets in 9 over’s for 54 runs.

Ramjit Jitlall scored 16 before he was caught of s. Haricharran and R. Gangaram contribute 15 to the total. Bowling for Crown XI R. Williams, D. Beharry, S. Haricharran and P. Dhaniram took 1 wicket each.
Crown XI reply with 159 all out of 25 overs Raymond Williams top score with 70 not out. Other good score came from M. Ramoutar 14, R. Ali 13 and P. Dhaniram 11. Bowling for Volcano F. Ali took 4 for 20, S. Singh 2 for 27 and R. Jitlall 1 for 30.

Phantom Keep Winning Streak Alive
By James Persaud

Phantom won their first two games of the 30 Over Cup competitions in quite comfortable style. The phantom bowling and fielding was superb in the first two games, Phantom batsman was putting up score of one hundred and fifty or sixty’s and the bowling was able to defend this score. Taking on Ranchers in the third game was not as easy, as if the Phantom team has become too over confident there were too many mistakes made especially in the fielding and catching departments. There were too many mistakes made and Ranchers build up a score of 145 all out batting first.

Paul Pharise scored 32 and S. Singh top score with 32, L. Pharise 12 and S. Shreekisen 10 were the main scores and responsible for the Ranchers total. Dave Singh and Stanley Lloyd were superb with the ball but got no support from the fielders and the same could be said for the other bowlers especially Ryan Ramjas who bowled a nice spell of spin bowling and took 1 for 24 in six overs. Dave Singh grabbed 2 for 18, Stanley Lloyd 1 for 28, Javid Salem 1 for 19 and Sasnarine 1 for 5 in 2 overs.

When Phantom took the crease they immediately find themselves in trouble losing 3 quick wickets, Ramjas with without scoring, Andrew Haniff for 2 and Terry Sital for 12. The Phantom Skipper Sasenarine took the responsibility upon himself and batted very carefully taking no chance or making any mistakes. He got some help from Sunil Singh who, came to the crease and made some big swings with the bat, he was able to connect a few times and the ball raced to the boundary at least 2 times. Just when he looked set for a big score he went to retrieve his hat which had fell of his head while  running a double, the wicketkeeper took the bails off and appeal and the umpire raised his hand signaling that he was out, run out. Gerald Lloyd was caught by the wicketkeeper for 8 and Dave Singh was bowled by Mohabir for 11.

Javid Salem came to the crease to join his skipper and played one of his more responsible innings as he bat every ball by its merit, the skipper kept a close watch on him making sure that he did not take any careless chance. The pair was able to steer the Phantom innings to a more steady position after 15 overs.

M. Singh, S. Shreekisen and D. Mohabir the top 3 bowlers for Ranchers was doing a fine job for their team restricting the batsman. When play resume after the water break M. Singh continues to bowl his last 3 overs for 8 runs, while S. Shreekisen find himself in some trouble from the batsman. After Salem 12  was run out, Leonard Vasquez 5 not out along with Sasenarine 64 not out  make sure that Phantom reach their total with 7 wickets down and 3 overs to spare. D. Mohabir was the most successful bowler with 3 for 16.

The Sunrise bowlers would kept the  pressure on New Horizon batsman as wicket kept falling at regular intervals bring the score to 7 for 143.  Cecil who batting spell was responsible made an artful 52 as he run out from a direct hit by Deryck. R. Singh and Kemraj made a remarkable comeback for New Horizon exploded for 59 runs partnership bringing New Horizon score to a competitive total.

Harold Deokinanan has Khemraj caught to break up the partnership. Singh made an astonishing 31 not out batting at number 8 as New Horizon was bowled out for 229 in 28.2 overs, and the game looked more in favor of New Horizon.

Leading Sunrise bowling Deryck Basdeo 5.2-34-2, Shane Manbodh 6-0-44-2, Ricky Deenu 5-0-33-1, Kalif Salim 6-1-37-1, and Harlod Deokinanan 6-0-42-1.

Having their work cut out the Sunrise batsmen were faced with an uphill battle. Roopnarine Dayal and Masood Salim started fairly in reply took the score to 27 as Masood fell in the 3 over. Mohamed  Hussain joined Dayal and they managed  to settle down taking the score to 57 as Dayal was caught at square leg by brilliant catch with the score 57 for 2 in  the 7th over.

Hussain who looked settling steered the batting for Sunrise was joined by Selwyn Cheong and they both took the score to 97 in the 14th overs as Hussain was run out. In the 15 overs Sunrise was 106 for 4 with Selwyn and Deryck looking unstoppable.

To start the second batting half for Sunrise lost Deryck to a closed run out with score 113 for 5. All hopes for Sunrise seem to fade away, but Ricky Deenu bat would light up striking timely boundaries. Cheong full of batting experience took Ricky under his wings lead the batting. What we witness were two batsmen determined to move to their victory in the heat. Sweating, and constantly stopping for water not just for drinking but showering their heads to keep cool Cheong and Ricky batted with stride pecking away at the target needed.

In addition we witnessed two batsmen not only striding away to victory for their team but also in a race to their half century. Ricky would pick up his half century making 57 not out, and Cheong followed with his half ton making 54 not out. Building a triumphant partnership of 117 Cheong and Ricky swiftly reached the needed target in 27.4 and the victory for Sunrise with the score 230 for 5. Cheong and Ricky displayed a masterpiece batting spell.
