Oakland, CA (June 25, 2026): Shimron Hetmyer unleashed a breathtaking display of power-hitting before Jasdeep Singh ripped through Washington Freedom with a five-wicket haul as the Seattle Orcas registered an emphatic 88-run victory at the Oakland Coliseum on Thursday.
After piling up an imposing 227 for 6, the Orcas bundled out Washington for 139 in just 16.2 overs to secure their most convincing performance of the Major League Cricket season.Shimron Hetmyer starred with an electrifying unbeaten 79 off 33 balls, peppering the boundary with two fours and nine sixes in a match-winning innings. Hetmyer blasted an unbeaten 79 from only 33 deliveries, while Marcus Stoinis hammered 42 off 16 balls in a brutal late assault that featured a combined 15 sixes. Jasdeep then stole the show with the ball, returning outstanding figures of 5 for 24 to earn Player of the Match honors.
Seattle's innings was built on a steady start before exploding spectacularly in the closing overs. Tim Seifert provided early momentum with a fluent 37 from 20 balls, while Shayan Jahangir added 22 and Matthew Breetzke continued his rich vein of form with a composed 32 from 23 deliveries.
The match turned decisively when Hetmyer arrived at the crease. The left-hander launched a relentless attack on the Freedom bowlers, bringing up his half-century in just 24 balls with a towering pull for six. Stoinis then joined the carnage, clearing the ropes six times during a blistering 42 off just 16 deliveries before falling to Marco Jansen at deep cover. Together, Hetmyer and Stoinis added 51 runs in fewer than three overs, transforming a competitive total into a daunting one.
Jansen was Washington's standout bowler with 3 for 33, while Ian Holland claimed 2 for 49. However, Jack Edwards and Saurabh Netravalkar endured difficult outings, conceding 99 runs between them as the Orcas finished strongly on 227 for 6.
Washington's pursuit unraveled almost immediately.
Captain Steven Smith fell for just one in the opening over, caught at deep midwicket off Jasdeep Singh, before Mitchell Owen departed in the second over after edging Ottneil Baartman to Hetmyer for five. With both openers dismissed inside three overs and the required rate climbing rapidly, Freedom never recovered.
Jasdeep delivered the decisive spell of the evening through the middle overs, dismissing Andries Gous, Glenn Maxwell and Jack Edwards in rapid succession to reduce Washington to 36 for 5. Maxwell's golden duck came during a devastating burst in which Jasdeep claimed four wickets in the space of five deliveries.
Ian Holland fought back with 26, while Marco Jansen contributed 20 and Amila Aponso remained unbeaten on 31, but the lower-order resistance merely delayed the inevitable. Jasdeep returned to remove Jansen and complete his five-wicket haul as Washington were dismissed for 139.
Seattle's comprehensive victory showcased every facet of their game. The top order laid the platform, Hetmyer and Stoinis delivered a devastating finishing act, and the bowlers ensured Washington never gained a foothold in the chase.
The result also provides a significant boost to the Orcas' net run rate following their heavy defeat to Los Angeles Knight Riders earlier in the tournament. Washington, meanwhile, will be left searching for answers after another batting collapse, with Glenn Maxwell's golden duck extending his difficult run of form heading into the next round of matches in Oakland.
