BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (July 22, 2026) β€” Darrius Pearson produced a match-winning five-wicket haul as NY Tri-State Youth Dev defeated PowerGen Penal by 16 runs in the seventh-place playoff of the 2026 Sir Garfield Sobers International Under-19 Cricket Tournament at Bayfield, Bridgetown, on Tuesday.

After electing to bat, NY Tri-State Youth Dev posted 195 all out in 33.4 overs before dismissing PowerGen Penal for 179 in 37.1 overs, overcoming a determined chase with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.

The innings was built on several valuable contributions rather than a single dominant score. Captain Ajay Prithiviraj top-scored with 38 from 34 balls, striking three fours and a six, while Ishaan Unnithan made 34 from 46 deliveries. Laksh Warty added a composed 32 off 33 balls, and opener Vir Ajmera gave the innings early momentum with a brisk 30 from 22 deliveries that included five fours and a six.

NY Tri-State Youth Dev recovered well after losing two early wickets inside six overs. Warty and Prithiviraj shared a 67-run stand for the third wicket to stabilize the innings before Prithiviraj and Unnithan continued the rebuilding effort. Later, Raghav Prabhune provided an important late flourish, scoring 29 from only 20 balls with four boundaries and a six to lift the total close to 200.

PowerGen Penal's bowlers shared the wickets effectively despite the competitive target. Sheldon Persad was the standout performer with 3 for 24 from seven overs, maintaining pressure through the middle overs. Shiva Harripersad produced remarkable figures of 3 for 1 in 2.4 overs after cleaning up the tail, while Rashad Shah claimed 2 for 39. Keshava Ramrattan and Kristoph Seeraj picked up one wicket apiece.

PowerGen Penal's chase never gained sustained momentum despite several batters making starts. Rashad Shah scored 26, Jordan Julien added 25, Kristoph Seeraj contributed 26, and Shiva Harripersad made a fighting 23, but none converted their innings into the substantial score required to anchor the chase.

PowerGen Penal reached 68 for 2 before regular breakthroughs halted their progress. Two run-outs, including the dismissal of Larry Harribance and later Kristoph Seeraj, further disrupted the innings at crucial moments.

Pearson proved decisive with the ball, finishing with 5 for 36 in 6.1 overs. He removed Keshav Doon, Roberto Badree, Shiva Harripersad, Fareed Bann and Sheldon Persad to derail the chase. Raghav Prabhune bowled an economical spell of 1 for 16 from seven overs, while Sachin Lakhan and Ishaan Unnithan claimed one wicket each. Captain Prithiviraj also delivered a disciplined eight-over spell that conceded just 31 runs without taking a wicket.

PowerGen Penal were eventually bowled out for 179 with five balls remaining, handing NY Tri-State Youth Dev a deserved 16-run victory.
