Jayden Higgins (left) hit 130 and Joshua Persaud scored 222 as Villagers Sports Club defeated Tropical United by 339 runs.

Persaud controlled the innings from the start, building a crucial 112-run opening partnership with Khush Seegobin, who contributed 42 from 34 deliveries with five fours and one six. Seegobin was run out by Cuthbert Mendonca in the 13th over, bringing an end to the opening stand.

Kymani Wilson was dismissed for 10 before Jayden Higgins joined Persaud and accelerated the scoring rate. Higgins smashed 130 from just 57 balls, hitting four fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate of 228.07. The pair pushed Villagers from 153 for 2 to 408 for 3 before Persaud was dismissed in the 37th over, caught and bowled by Willie Charles.

Higgins followed shortly after, bowled by Jamal Norton for 130, but Villagers continued their assault through the final overs. Saif Samaroo finished unbeaten on 19 from nine balls, including two sixes, as Villagers reached 447 for 6 from their allotted 40 overs.

Willie Charles was Tropical United’s leading wicket-taker with 2 for 79, while Rodwell Busgith and Jamal Norton claimed one wicket each. However, the bowling attack struggled to contain Villagers’ aggressive approach, with the innings featuring 35 sixes and 24 fours.

Chasing 448, Tropical United faced an uphill task and were unable to build the partnerships required to challenge the massive target. Romane Martin top-scored with 40 from 46 balls, while Jamal Norton added 31 from 33 deliveries.

Shane Cole and Barrington Bartley dismantled the Tropical United batting order with disciplined spells. Cole took 2 for 13 from six overs, including two maidens, while Bartley claimed 4 for 29 from 7.4 overs to complete the best bowling figures of the match.

Tropical United slipped from 30 for 1 to 67 for 2 before losing wickets at regular intervals. Bartley’s four-wicket haul removed key middle-order batters, including Kevroy Parchment, Willie Charles, Rodwell Busgith, and Jason Godfrey, as the chase ended at 108 for 8 in 23.4 overs.

The result gives Villagers Sports Club a significant boost in the Clement Busta Lawrence Premier League 2026 standings, with Persaud’s record-breaking innings and a disciplined bowling performance highlighting their strength in both departments. Tropical United will need to regroup after a heavy defeat that exposed vulnerabilities against high-scoring opposition.
